The competition to get through the top universities in India is increasing at a rapid pace. The country is home to public, private, deemed and state universities. Universities of India are funded and supported by UGC (University Grants Commission).

The UGC lists 90 private universities, 130 deemed universities, 275 state universities and 42 central universities. In addition, some institutions have also been awarded the permission to grant degrees on an autonomous basis and are often referred to as autonomous organizations. UGC also offers recognition to Indian Universities through NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). On successful completion of the courses, the universities and institutes also offer placement assistance to the students.
